Make it Fit Foundation

We are holding our 2 summer events again this year. The first event, The Ohio Ride For Autism (see attached flyer) on July 28th, 2018 , will be the 9th  annual event  (see attached flyer)..  The second event is The 12th Annual All About Autism Car/Truck/Motorcycle Show on August 18th, 2018. The purpose of both events is to raise money for several Autism-related programs right here in Central Ohio. The proceeds from these events will be distributed through The Make It Fit Foundation.  Our Ohio Non-Profit Charity number is 2060244 with 501c3  number of 45-3955513.

One of the things we’ve been able to provide, is Equine Therapy at Stockhand’s Horses For Healing. We’ve sent more than 300  kids to therapy sessions there with amazing results in many cases. There’s a special bond between kids with autism and animals that helps them. For thousands of years the bond between man and animal has proven to be effective in creating an emotional, healing bond. Horses are used by physical, speech, and occupational therapists to reach their patients on a personal level through what is referred to as “hippotherapy.”

Another thing we are now providing is Robot Therapy in partnership with Robokind, a Texas based technology company that’s building state-of-the-art robots designed specifically to meet the needs of children with autism. Their humanoid robots are highly effective at reaching and motivating children with autism who have difficulty interacting with humans or who are uncomfortable practicing and using social skills with people.Anxiety and emotional dysregulation inhibit learning. When children are engaged and comfortable, they’re better able to learn. Recent research has shown that children working with a therapist and Milo are engaged 70-80% of the time compared to just 3-10% of the time with traditional approaches. Children want to work with Milo again and again which increases their opportunities to learn and their developmental success.

Cookies For I-Pads is a project we took on in late 2014. We are seeking to reach one goal, giving autistic children a voice through an Apple iPad.  We are willing to help any child to find a way to be heard. Their only requirements are that the child needs an official autism diagnosis with a diagnosis of a speech delay and that the person requesting an I-Pad must participate in some the fundraising events. We have given  more than 480 iPads in the past couple of years alone. We’ve partnered with Cheryl’s Cookies to take this program to the next level and currently have 50,000 “Hope Cookies” on the way. This program will allow schools and families earn the equipment they so desperately need, through their own customized cookie programs.

We also have provided free advocacy for education purposes over the past few years to hundreds of families. as well as legal help once when the situation arises. This is one area that we truly need to expand upon and these 2 events will help us do just that. This area is critical in the development of children to help them become more independent, happy, healthy, productive adults.

Recreation Unlimited is holding much needed camps for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.  We try to support their efforts to give these kids the summer camp experience and hope to provide them the additional funding needed to hold more of them.

We are looking for gift cards and/or other merchandise that can be sold at our auction, as well as any items that may be raffled off.  Monetary donations are also greatly appreciated.  Any donation, regardless of amount or dollar value, will go a long way in assisting us in our mission – to continue to improve the lives of kids with autism and their families in our communities.

Please contact me, or Rebecca at [email protected]or call her at  614-403-2987, or Shawnna at [email protected]or call her at 740-513-5932.

We appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Mike Hoover
